Abstract:

This work presents the commercial perspective on Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and its role within the evolving framework of Space Traffic Coordination and Management (STCM). It describes how commercial industry has developed research, tools, and services to address growing space safety challenges, including rapid increases in low Earth orbit (LEO) conjunction rates, large constellation deployments, and debris generated by antisatellite (ASAT) tests. The presentation highlights analytical capabilities such as encounter-rate estimation, identification of conjunction squalls, and assessment of spatial density growth over time. It outlines how integrated SSA systems support mission risk reduction through improved observation processing, predictive analysis, and non-cooperative maneuver characterization. The work situates commercial SSA providers within a broader ecosystem of operators, service providers, and regulators contributing to coordinated traffic management. Overall, it argues that commercially driven SSA capabilities are an essential foundation for scalable, accurate, and collaborative space safety in an increasingly congested orbital environment.
